Kidding About Blogs

Hello, all~ You may remember that Amelia is hosting a Fear Factor themed food challenge for teens later this summer. We've already done most of the ground work, which includes a selective list of food we've deemed nasty enough for this event. Here's a sampling- sardines, potted meat, pickled things, etc. etc.

However, if you can think of any foods that made your blood run cold as a child (or even now!), could you let us know? I'd like to get as much input on what everyone considers to be "gross" food.

Tomorrow (Friday, March 23), Natalie and I will be attending one day of a three day homeschooling convention in Cincinnati. The convention is largely conservative Christian in its orientation, but there is a strong emphasis on classical education as well. Additionally there are workshops on teaching specific subject areas, such as math, science, and foreign languages. Our goal is to learn whatever we can that might enable us to better serve our homeschooling families. We'll be going to workshops and visiting many vendors. Stay tuned for further reports from us next week here on the blog and at the next YSL meeting.

There is a very interesting article in today's Cincinnati Enquirer about Sharon Draper, the author of the YA novels, Forged by Fire and Tears of a Tiger. I'm ashamed to say that I, for one, had no idea that she lives in Cincinnati (Lincoln Heights). Take a look at the article; it's in the "Life" section. You might even work up a nice display of her books, together with the article.

Pew Internet, which regularly publishes reports on Internet usage, has published a new report specifically on how teens use MySpace and other social networking sites. It is based on a survey of almost 1000 teens, done in November 2006. Please take a look at the report; it demonstrates very clearly why teens find MySpace so appealing and what exactly they report using MySpace for. The address is www.pewinternet.org.
